Lydia Shorenstein moved to the United States from Frankfurt, Germany, and received her B.A. in French literature from Marymount College. Lydia has served on the San Francisco Symphony Board of Governors and the board of the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. She created the Simon Preisler Holocaust Fund with the Jewish Children and Family Services of San Francisco. Currently, Lydia is a trustee of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Lydia’s late husband, Doug Shorenstein, joined the family business in 1983 and became chairman and chief executive officer of the Shorenstein Company in 1995. In 2007, Doug Shorenstein was elected to the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and served as its chairman in 2011 and 2012. Doug Shorenstein was the son of Walter Shorenstein, who founded the Center in 1986. In 2013, Doug and Lydia founded the Walter Shorenstein Media and Democracy Fellowship in honor of Doug’s father. Lydia has three children, Brandon (board member), Sandra (board member) and Danielle. In 2019, Director Nancy Gibbs named Lydia Honorary Chair of Shorenstein’s Advisory Board.
