The essence of journalism is holding power accountable. As a columnist and reporter at The Boston Globe, David Nyhan challenged the powerful and acted as a voice for those whose voices are seldom heard. The Nyhan Prize honors a journalist who embodies David’s style of journalism and his commitment to mobilize public support across society’s fault lines of class, race, gender and ethnicity for worthy causes.
Criteria: This award is open to U.S.-based journalists who cover political and social policy in the public interest. Previous prize winners are not eligible. You can find samples of David Nyhan’s work and articles about him here for a sense of the type of writing honored by this award.
