Please join the Shorenstein Center for an insightful conversation on critical global issues with two award-winning journalists at the center of action in the U.S. and hotspots abroad – Susan Glasser and Peter Baker. The discussion, moderated by Belfer Center Senior Fellow Karen Donfried, will focus on current events in the Middle East, Ukraine, and China, as well as in the U.S., with a look at the year ahead. Susan Glasser, staff writer for The New Yorker and co-author with Peter Baker of The Divider: Trump in the White House, 2017-2021, will be joined by Baker, chief White House correspondent for The New York Times, in a conversation with Donfried, who served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs from 2021-2023. Moderated by Donfried, the conversation will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.

Glasser and Baker—separately and together—write about Washington policy and politics and foreign affairs, including current tensions in Ukraine, Russia, and the Middle East. Earlier, they served four years in Moscow as co-bureau chiefs for The Washington Post chronicling the rise of Vladimir Putin, culminating in a book titled Kremlin Rising: Vladimir Putin’s Russia and the End of Revolution, Updated Edition

Glasser is a long-time reporter and editor of both domestic and foreign issues. She writes a weekly column on life in Washington and has covered issues from the intersection of money and politics to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and Putin’s impacts. She is a past top editor of PoliticoForeign Policy, and the Washington Post’s Outlook.

Baker has been with the New York Times since 2008, serving briefly as lead reporter for the Times’ Jerusalem office. Previously, he reported for 20 years for The Washington Post on everything from elections, economic crises, and Supreme Court nominations to natural disasters. He has covered five presidents from George. W. Bush to Joe Biden.

This event is co-sponsored by Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center and the Institute of Politics.

This discussion is open only to Harvard ID holders. It will be in-person and not recorded.
