2,000+ Top Producers Sign Petition to Drop Second “P” from AMPTP, Part of Larger Push to Address Inequities; Cathy Schulman, Jason Blum, Dede Gardner, Todd Garner among Signees

Writer Matt Grobar reports that more than 2,300 film and TV producers are urging for the removal of the “P” from the AMPTP acronym for the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, by signing a Change.org petition. Grobar spoke with producers Billy Ray and Todd Garner, who conveyed the opinions that the producers were not part of the 2023 labor disputes and that the AMPTP is an alliance of companies—mostly financiers and distributors—not individual producers. Grobar also spoke with producer Cathy Schulman, who stated that most producers were supportive of the writers and actors on strike and also raised the issues producers often face with lack of health insurance and delayed payments. The petition aims to draw attention to the position of producers in a changing industry.
