In this latest installment of the Misinformation Speaker Series, Claes de Vreese provides analysis on how citizens perceive mis- and disinformation and who they see as the main culprits. The presentation also explores misconceptions about how algorithms work and how this may aggravate the consequences of misinformation. Finally, de Vreese reviews recent European initiatives specifically addressing mis- and disinformation.
Claes H. de Vreese is University Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Society (2021-), with a special focus on media and democracy at the University of Amsterdam. He holds the Chair in political communication at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research ASCoR. de Vreese (co-)directs the UvA Platform Information, Communication and the Data Society (ICDS), including the Research Priority Areas Communication, Personalized Communication, and Human(e) AI. He is the founding Director of the Center for Politics and Communication (www.polcomm.org). He is also Chair of Social Sciences in the Danish Institute for Advanced Studies DIAS and founding (2021) Scientific Director of the Digital Democracy Center at the University of Southern Denmark.
