June 24, 2010 — Walter H. Shorenstein died on Thursday, June 24, at the age of 95. Shorenstein was the principal donor to the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy, which was named after his daughter and founded in 1985. Mr. Shorenstein played an active role in the development of the Shorenstein Center for 25 years. A leading figure in politics and philanthropy throughout his life, Shorenstein founded one of the country’s preeminent real estate firms, the San Francisco–based Shorenstein Properties LLC.
