Christiane Baumann is a post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School studying Emotions and Decision Making with Prof. Jennifer Lerner. She received her Masters degrees in Computer Science from ETH Zurich and in Psychology from the University of Zurich and completed her Ph.D. in Computational Modeling and Decision Making at the University of Zurich in 2021. Her primary research interest is to understand how humans make decisions using a combination of behavioral experiments and computational cognitive models.
At the Shorenstein center, Christiane investigates how emotions influence the way we process information and how they affect human judgements and choices. In her current project, she investigates how emotions, such as sadness and anger, affect people’s sensitivity to discern between true and false information. Moreover, she aims to understand if accountability could reduce people’s belief in and sharing of ambiguous content. Fun fact: While Christiane possesses a deep understanding of the rational way to make decisions, she humbly acknowledges her challenge of translating this knowledge into practical application.
