David Choffness

Professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University

David Choffnes is a Professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University (2013–present), and core faculty member in the Northeastern Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute, where he served as Executive Director (2021-2026). His interdisciplinary research covers areas of friction between the Internet and people who use it, with a focus on identifying and addressing harms related to consumer privacy, net neutrality violations, Internet performance. His research has been recognized with 4 best paper awards and two Applied Networking Research Prizes, and has been covered by the popular press including The New York Times, ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS News, and The Boston Globe. His work has been supported by a wide range of funders that include the National Science Foundation, Consumer Reports, Google, the Comcast Innovation Fund, Arcep, and the Ludlow Institute.
